Not soon before long, it’s going to be 2018 already and a new fashion trend would then be emerging—it might even be doing so right now. But if streetwear used to be the predominant aesthetic and beads were the minimalist wholesale hip hop jewellery of 2016-2017, what are we expecting to see come New Year?

One of our main guesses that will be making a comeback is chains. Chains were some of the earliest jewellery in hip hop to introduce the concept of flashy bling to the said subculture. During the penetration of hip hop in the 70s into mainstream music, at the forefront of the funky revolution was Kool Herc. Although he didn’t proliferate the whole idea of wholesale hip hop jewellery as a status symbol, the new attention given to a once syndicated genre begged participants to sort of show off and thus the birth of big, eye-catching dookie chains.

In the year to come, more names would become known in the industry but would also be known more so for their choices in bling. Run-DMC was maybe the most popular of these artists, along with the Beastie Boys and Public Enemy. Including LL Cool J, they were all known for introducing the sub-genre called “new school” hip hop.

It might seem too retro (we said the same about jogger pants but here we are) but we could see a rise in demand in wholesale hip hop chain jewellery this 2018 considering big producers like Honorable C Note and breakthrough artists like Lil Uzi Vert bringing back the primordial bling back into the hip hop scene.
